Through Resolution 009897 of June 2024, the Ministry of National Education (MEN) granted the University of La Guajira the qualified registration for the undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety and Health, a professional career focused on the education of professionals trained in the management and prevention of risks in the labor field.

The program, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, aims to train integral students capable of promoting health and safety in their work environment through the development of scientific competencies, technological innovation, research, extension, entrepreneurship and environmental conservation, from a humanistic perspective.

Wendy Ramírez Cardeño, the teacher leading the construction of the undergraduate program, reaffirmed the commitment to contribute to regional progress with a quality education that will have a positive impact on the workplace and sustainable socioeconomic development. “The program will provide students with the necessary tools to lead initiatives to improve working conditions, reduce work-related accidents and promote a culture of prevention and wellbeing,” she explained.

The registration was granted for a term of seven years and ratifies the duration of nine academic semesters, 154 credits and 54 subjects for the program, which must be taken in person at the Uniguajira-Riohacha campus.

The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Martha Mulato Mejía, expressed that “this represents a significant achievement for the University of La Guajira because it demonstrates the institution's commitment to the development of the territory and the country, by offering academic programs that meet their needs”.

It is worth mentioning that with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education, the Alma Mater has strengthened its academic offerings with 26 undergraduate programs, which are intended to contribute to the development of the department by training professionals that meet both local and national conditions.
