Desde la Vicerrectoría de Docencia, en cabeza de la Ingeniera Marlin Alicia Aarón Gonzalvez, se reafirma el compromiso de apoyar y fortalecer el proceso de formación académica, respondiendo tanto a los contenidos curriculares como a las demandas actuales de la sociedad. Con una trayectoria destacada en la Universidad de La Guajira, ha ejercido como Directora del Centro de Cómputos, Directora de Programas de Postgrado, Directora del Centro de Investigaciones, así como Gerente de Telecom Guajira; experiencia que hoy respalda su gestión como actual Vicerrectora de Docencia. El objetivo es trascender una enseñanza centrada únicamente en contenidos, para ofrecer una educación que atienda las dinámicas sociales y cumpla con lo prometido a los estudiantes, motivándolos a formarse en nuestra alma mater.
Asimismo, se reconoce la responsabilidad de incorporar de manera equilibrada la inteligencia artificial generativa en los procesos formativos. Este avance tecnológico, cada vez más presente en el ámbito estudiantil, debe ser aprovechado por los docentes para promover el pensamiento crítico y analítico, evitando que su uso se limite a cumplir requisitos sin generar aprendizajes significativos.
En este sentido, la Vicerrectoría de Docencia trabaja en planes que fortalezcan el cuerpo docente y aseguren que los estudiantes alcancen los propósitos de sus programas. El objetivo final es formar profesionales capaces de intervenir de manera exitosa en la sociedad guajira, regional y nacional, respondiendo a los retos actuales y futuros con calidad y pertinencia.

Functions of the Academic Vice Rector
Among the main functions of the Academic Vice Chancellor are:
- To assist the Rector in the definition of policies, planning and institutional evaluation, related to the cultural, scientific, teaching, student and academic affairs of the University.
- Project in coordination with the Administrative and Financial Vice Rector, with the Vice Rector for Research and Extension, with the directors of the institutes and/or centers (dependencies), the presentation to planning of the Semi-Annual Report, to be presented by the Rector, in the first month of each period, including achievements and proposals for adjustments, modifications and necessary corrections.
- Plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities of the units attached to the academic vice rector's office, for the fulfillment of the policies, plans, projects, programs and objectives established by the University of La Guajira.
- Represent the University in the organizations and events delegated to him/her by the Rector.
- Accompany and advise the processes of admission, enrollment and registration of students and others related to the provision of educational services by the University.
- Evaluate compliance with the legal requirements of the academic programs.
- Accompany and validate the academic input for the publication of newsletters, journals and research material and academic information that includes teaching, research and extension activities.
- Propose to the rector and the Academic Council the modification or reform of academic rules and regulations and the creation, merger, suppression or suspension of academic programs.
- Project, in harmony with the Administrative and Financial Vice Rector's Office, the teaching staff and the proposed budget corresponding to the faculties, postgraduate, extension, distance education and other academic programs, for the approval of the Rector.
- Submit for consideration of the Rector's Office the plan for training, promotion and study commissions for teachers, subject to the opinion of the competent internal agencies.
- Prepare and present reports, analyses and studies on the development and projection of academic teaching activities, periodically or when requested.
- Submit to the Academic Council the proposed calendar of academic programs and its modifications and comply with the approved decisions.
- Attend to matters concerning the provision of library services and authorization of the Laboratories.
- Monitoring, Control and Evaluation of existing programs.
- Participate in and/or direct the various committees attached to the Academic Vice-Rectory.
- Present improvement projects and permanent updating of the processes of its unit.
- Any other duties that, being of the nature of the functions of the position, may be assigned to him/her by his/her hierarchical superior.
