At the Language Center of the University of La Guajira, we are proud to offer a wide range of services designed to meet the language learning needs of our university community and the general public. Our services include:
Testing services for the university and external community
English proficiency exams (undergraduate programs)
This test evaluates the four communicative skills viz: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.
Addressed to: students who wish to demonstrate their level of English proficiency.
This exam can be taken by any enrolled student, when he/she considers to have an apt level of knowledge that allows him/her to pass without taking one or more levels considered valid in the respective curricular program. The student must not be enrolled in English at the time of registering for the exam, nor must he/she have previously missed the English level to be taken.
Modality: in-person.
Value of the service: The stipulated in the pecuniary rights in the year in which the student is enrolled.

English placement exams (undergraduate programs)
This test evaluates the four communication skills: oral expression, listening comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression.
Addressed to: students who wish to demonstrate their level of English proficiency.
First semester undergraduate students are entitled to take this exam when they consider that they have a level of knowledge that allows them to pass without taking one or more levels considered valid in the respective program.
Modality: in-person.

Wayuunaiki / Spanish exams (undergraduate programs)
This test evaluates the four communicative skills namely: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing (in Spanish and Wayuunaiki). The exams have an advanced level of difficulty.
Addressed to: students belonging to the Wayuu ethnic group, who have English as an extracurricular subject, whose mother tongue is Wayuunaiki and who wish to validate Spanish as a second language.
Modality: in-person.

English language placement exams (graduate programs)
This test evaluates the four communicative skills, namely: Reading and Writing.
Aimed at:Students who wish to demonstrate their level of proficiency in English. Graduate students are entitled to take this exam when they consider they have a level of proficiency that allows them to pass without taking one or more levels considered valid in the respective program.
Modality: in-person.
Value of the service: There is no cost for students in the first academic semester and for those in the second semester there is a 10% of the SMLV.

TOEFL English Exams
The TOEFL English test is an academic content test that provides institutions with a reliable and valid way to assess the level of communicative competence in English as a foreign language. The test is divided into two types:
Three-skill test: includes reading, listening and writing.
Four-skill test: includes reading, listening, writing and speaking.
Aimed at:: Any university or external community.
Modality: Classroom / Virtual.
Value of the service: 3 skills: COP$270,000 or 4 skills: COP$360,000

Free courses in native and foreign languages
Description of the service: Courses in different foreign languages (English, French, Arabic, etc.) and native languages (Spanish and Wayuunaiki) are offered according to demand.
