Presentation of Extension and Social Projection
For the University of La Guajira it is of vital importance to maintain a synergy between the different sectors of society, its processes and its context; that is why we widely understand that Extension allows us to integrate and interact towards a permanent dialogue with the environment and contribute to the exchange of knowledge, the construction of applied knowledge and the promotion of integrative practices of the academic community, civil society, the private sector and public organizations.
The function of Extension at the University of La Guajira proposes a unified sense from the interdisciplinary in the various modalities and axes of action; with a broad portfolio of services of the institutional offer, adjustable to the specific needs required by the community, because we recognize the challenges of cultural diversity, promoting the development of social projection with the constant articulation of research and teaching as missionary axes.
Extension is a Missional process certified in quality by INCONTEC ISO 9001 Standard (February 2014). In this sense, we work with the different modalities or fields of Extension, to respond to the needs and demands of the environment, in a competitive manner, forging concrete and measurable progress, against the development objectives of the region.

La Extensión en la University of La Guajira busca propiciar y mantener la relación de la Universidad con su entorno socioeconómico y cultural. En la cultura se integran las artes, las letras, las ciencias, las tecnologías, las prácticas cotidianas, las formas institucionales, y las prácticas simbólicas e imaginarias. Se vincula con la realidad social y productiva de la región y del país en una relación multidireccional en la que identifica los problemas en el medio, ofreciendo alternativas que contribuyan al desarrollo económico, social, cultural, científico, tecnológico y artístico de la región and the país, poniendo a prueba la validez del conocimiento y aprendizaje, generando un proceso de retroalimentación permanente

In the XXI century the Extension and Social Projection of the University of La Guajira will be articulated to the state, the company and the community, relying on the new knowledge generated from research seeking answers that contribute to the improvement and the level and quality of life of society, strengthening opportunities through the services offered for the construction of a country, region and a competitive and economically and socially sustainable department.
